SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY (SVDP) IS HERE TO HELP YOU!
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.
(Mathew 25:40) Mathew 25: 31-46 may be one of the best descriptions of the God of Jesus in the whole Bible and at the same time, one of the most shocking!
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVDP) was created in our Parish around four years ago, with the mission, the only mission, of helping the ones in need, not only with a helping economic hand, but also with a sense of recognizing the dignity of every human being regardless of their economic circumstances and in that face, connect with the face of the Son of God. Ever since, women and men from our Parish have done a wonderful, remarkable work / service to people in need in our Community, both to any registered parishioner regardless of where they live and also to any person, regardless of their religious affiliation that lives in 75212.
Now that unemployment, layoffs, need is rampant in our midst, SVDP is here to help you! Alas, and for whatever the reason, not many people from our Parish are taking advantage of this. In taking to Mr. Gaston Acosta, the actual president of the Society, I want to convey the following:
- SVDP is here to help you with food, utilities, rent, medicines…
- SVDP wants to, in an especial way, offer its help to undocumented people, since they do not have access to any federal aid.
- They are only a phone call away! (214) 628-2912
- All the calls are totally confidential! If you are shy about calling, please, do not hesitate and do it! Calls and the cases decision-making are strictly confidential! Not even I, as pastor, know who calls.
I am also grateful to report that a couple of people who want to remain anonymous and do not belong to the Parish, send a couple of checks to help us. That money cannot go into the Parish normal funds, rather is solely to be distributed among people who are in need.
I can say it louder but I cannot say it clearer: SVDP is here to help you. If you ae in need, please, don’t hesitate, eradicate any bad feeling about calling and contact them.
Again, I do want to thank our SVDP for all the goodness they have been doing, not only now but since its foundation! That is truly living Gospel!
Ah! If you would like to help and join the SVDP, do not hesitate and contact any of their members or call as well.
Peace!
Luis Gerardo, Capuchin
